TWISTED SISTER Says It's Not Too Early for Holiday Charity
September 24, 2008Rock legends TWISTED SISTER have announced the "Twisted Sister, A Twisted Christmas On Broadway" holiday extravaganza, Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Nokia Theatre Times Square in New York City.
The show will feature the band performing songs from their now-classic rockin' holiday CD and DVD, "A Twisted Christmas", featuring TWISTED versions of beloved Christmas classics including "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", "Deck The Halls", "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" inspired by their biggest hit, "We're Not Gonna Take It". The CD enamored both critics and fans alike.
TWISTED SISTER is using this holiday announcement to remind everyone it's not too early to start thinking about holiday charity gift giving. The band is active, both collectively and individually in numerous charities throughout the calendar years. The band has donated to Autism Speaks/Cure Autism Now, with proceeds from their "A Twisted Christmas" CD. Earlier this year, the band contributed funds to Station Family Fund and performed at the benefit concert in Providence, while Dee Snider was a designated spokesperson for the organization. This past May, Dee, who is a national spokesperson for the March of Dimes, held his sixth annual Dee Snider's Bikers for Babies.
For this holiday season, TWISTED SISTER invites all their fans (and everyone!) to begin their charity gift giving with a visit to Charity Navigator at www.charitynavigator.org. This non-profit is the most utilized evaluator of charities in the U.S. and can help guide one and all to those who need the most in whatever category and/or area of the world one wishes to contribute.
"I know it sounds cynical, but the first thing I want to know when I'm asked to donate money is, 'How much of my contribution will actually reach those it's intended for?'" said Dee Snider. "It's sad, but with all the corruption in the world today, we can't just assume that our hard earned dollars will get to the people most in need. Charity Navigator sets my mind at ease. With their incredible website, I can give knowing the money I've pledged is actually helping."
TWISTED lead guitarist Jay Jay French agrees. "Considering the state of the economy, it is imperative for individuals who want to spend their hard earned dollars to make the most informed choices they can. Thanks to Charity Navigator, those choices have never been easier and one can feel better that the money they are donating goes to the most legitimate and neediest of charities."
Founded in 2001, Charity Navigator evaluates the financial health of over 5,300 of America's largest charities. Its ratings, accessible at no charge at www.charitynavigator.org, helped nearly 5 million donors make informed giving decisions last year by ensuring every dollar donated is well spent. The site is a two-time Forbes award winner for "Best of the Web;" was selected by Reader's Digest as one of the "100 Best Things about America;" and in 2007, was inducted into Business Week's "Philanthropy Hall of Fame" for "revolutionizing the process of giving."
Charity Navigator spokesperson Sandra Miniutti states, "With the state of the economy, we know that donors will have less money to give to charity this year and that charities like food banks will see a sharp increase in demand for their services. It is critical that those who do give be particularly strategic when deciding which charities deserve support. We are grateful to TWISTED SISTER for helping us get this message out and for encouraging their fans to give generously to well-run charities."
Formed in 1973, TWISTED SISTER dominated the radio airwaves and MTV with such monster hits as "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock", still staples at classic rock radio and television. To date, the band has sold over 10 million albums worldwide, boasts 34 silver, gold and platinum certifications from eight countries and has toured in 22 different countries. TWISTED SISTER has given over 9,000 performances in their thirty-plus-year career.
Tickets for "Twisted Sister Presents A Twisted Christmas on Broadway" go on sale to the general public this coming Friday, September 26. For the ultimate TWISTED fan, a VIP package is available inclusive of a General Admission ticket, a personally autographed merchandise item, and a meet-and-greet and photo with TWISTED SISTER.
